Today is the first official day of summer, the longest day of the year. We celebrated by eating seafood. Matt and Dad went to buy crabs, but they came back with scallops, shrimp, orange roughy, clams, and mussels. Mom and Ashley threw a fit, so Dad went back to get some crab. Dad and Matt cooked the food -- Matt had to peel and devein the 2 lbs of shrimp! The most fun part about our whole seafood feast is that Emmy LOVED it! She ate 3 shrimp, 1 scallop, 1 clam, 1 mussel, a big chunk of orange roughy and a bite of crab. She was devouring the fish, scallops, and shrimp. I couldn't feed it to her fast enough! She was so cute, eating her seafood -- a girl after her daddy's own heart. He was thrilled.
Emmy has been a delight on this trip. She plays very seriously in the sand, digging, collecting shells, and running away from the ocean. She is very timid of the ocean water and waves. She looks so cute in her little bathing suit, toddling around in the sand. Today Nannie buried her legs and then she'd break free and beg to be buried again. She loves the pool more than the beach and goes absolutely crazy with joy! She laughs, squeals, tries to jump off the edge, and grins ear to ear. One night we went to walk on the beach right after sunset. Emmy seemed to enjoy the sand more at night. It felt cool and silky to walk in and there weren't very many people. I think she gets overwhelmed by all of the people at the beach during the day, and it seemed to make her more secure to have the beach to herself. Matt caught a baby crab to show Emmy and then she had fun trying to catch crabs herself. She proved to be very quick and when she'd see it, she'd snatch it so fast! In fact, she never missed. She really seemed to enjoy the sand, laying down in it and digging her hands in.
Being at the seaside has been great for her. She plays hard all morning and then conks out for her nap, sleeps three hours, and is ready to entertain the family until bedtime around 9. It's been nice being lax about her naps and schedule. She also has eaten well, I think because she works up such an appetite. The other day she ate a whole hoagie ham and cheese sandwich on the way home from the beach. She loves to take the "trolley bus" to the beach and sits there saying "trolley bus" over and over again. At night time she gets very silly, laughing easily and loving all of the attention she gets. When she gets ready for bed, she loves for everyone to watch her brush her teeth. Then she kisses each family member, making sure she doesn't forget anyone, and says night night and I love you repeatedly. She has also enjoyed the hot tub and porch hammock/swing. She's gone on a walk almost every day. She sure loves to be outside. Being outside always flips her mood around. She seems to be saying so much now! Today she said, as she ate the fish, "I like it." That was the first I'd heard her say that. Whenever she tries to do anything, she says "I did it." She's a lucky little red-head. She tans instead of burning like a typical red-head might. She is so beautiful and her smile is the cutest in the world!
Being pregnant here is not quite as fun. I can't be as active with tennis and volleyball, and boogie boarding is not the same. Still, I'm proud to say I boogie boarded at almost six months pregnant! Tomorrow is our last day and then in the evening we'll drive to Norfolk to get a head start on our trip. These beach vacations go by so fast. It makes me sad.
